Hi there, I’m Debra Simons and have been playing pickleball for 2 1/2 years. I love pickleball because of the social part of the game and meeting new people but also for getting my exercise and my 10,000 steps I get when I play. I just finished a week of playing with the Selkirk Amped S2 X5 Fiberflex Paddle that Pickleball Central sent to our club to demo.
I currently have been using a POP paddle, so much of this review will be comparing the two paddles. As soon as I grabbed the handle, I knew I liked it. The shorter handle kept my hand gripped in the same position which helped me keep it in place. I tend to rotate my paddle while playing and this kept me from doing that. Then I started playing the game. As I did, I seemed to have more control with the direction of the ball. The paddle also had a surface that really helped me with my spin. I am used to playing with a rimless paddle but I found that the edge helped when picking up fast and low balls and well as adding a little spin with my return. Making contact with the ball doesn’t sound the same coming off the paddle that I'm used to hearing but the ball seems to come off the paddle more slowly which feels more controlled which also seemed to help me with my short game. I did find that I needed to use more power to get the same distance so this paddle would probably work really well and is best suited for a stronger player who has a hard time controlling their distance shots.
In conclusion... I loved the shorter handle and the control I got from the paddle. This paddle definitely helped me have good control of my short game and dinking at the net.
